HIGHLAND UPDATES PARKS AND REC MASTER PLAN by Katheryn Krupa

On Oct. 21st, there was a strategy session for Highland Township's Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  There was an excellent turn out and folks met to work on goals and give input to update Highlands Parks and Rec Master Plan.  The Parks Committee is seeking additional input from all Highland Township citizens.  There is an important survey they are asking all Highland residents to fill out so that they can more accurately assess resident's concerns and needs re: park facilities, bike paths, purchasing land for preservation of open spaces, and other parks and recreation interests.  Please take a moment to fill out the survey (and/or make your comments and suggestions).  Click here for survey:

ADOPT A ROAD By Katheryn Krupa

The Highland Conservancy has adopted a portion of road leading to our newest park, Highland Oaks.  Earlier this year, we co-sponsored an invasive removal day at this beautiful park.  During several visits to the park and bike rides nearby, we noticed Harvey Lake Road desperately needed "adopting".  This Sunday we kicked off our first clean-up along stretches of the road and hope to complete all of it this week.  Like many roads in our township, there was an amazing accumulation of trash.  I never knew so many people smoke cigarettes, drink Mountain Dew or eat fast food (if the litter is any indication that is).  If you have a boy scout eager to earn service hours or wish to help out yourself, please call 248-887-4643.  Special thanks to all those who helped out Sunday.
